Sarazen Haile

I’m interested in the inherent power of everyday objects – to convey meaning, spark imagination, elicit emotion, and tell stories. I place my work in the viewer’s space hoping to create a back and forth between the me, the work, and the audience. To this end, I see the social space surrounding the work as integral to its meaning and function as the subject and medium. Installations and participatory projects are a way of interacting with the public that is fulfilling, exciting and collaborative.

The straightforwardness of paper has always appealed to me. It has universality; we all have experience with it, and likely in childhood, understood its infinite possibilities. The work calls upon these familiar experiences, inviting the audience to place themselves within the context of each piece – both its subject and its medium.
